Day Three – Bangkok

Firstly to show that I respond to my audience, a change to the font – hope you can read it better now Oliver.

Everywhere you travel in Bangkok you come across groups of stalls in small markets.These sell anything from local produce to dodgy DVDs. Today however we travelled north of the city to the “Daddy of all markets”,the Chutuchak weekend market.It is estimated that there are over 10,000 stalls at the market which is visited every weekend by about 200,000 visitors.Here you can buy everything that is legal to sell in Thailand(a fairly exhaustive list) and probably a few illegal ones.It is set out in sections such as food & drink, clothing,furniture and even pets(we didn’t actually find that one)The  pictures probably do not do justice to the magnitude of this spectacle but are the best I could do. 

The idea was that we would make an early start to avoid the crowds and the heat of the mid-day sun, but unfortunately we both slept like logs and didn’t wake up until 9. By the time we got to the market it was well in progress and very busy, in honesty a little too busy for us. A great experience overall never the less.

The rest of the day was spent riding the sky train visiting various mall and shopping areas,with plenty of window shopping but few purchases. 

I haven’t said much about the hotel we are staying in, so I will take the opportunity now.I don’t know if it the best hotel in Bangkok but must be amongst them.The room itself is like a mini-suite with a lobby area containing the wardrobes, with the main room containing a settee and desk in addition to the large double bed.The bathroom has a large bath together with a shower room, twin sinks and a toilet But it is the small refinements that make the difference like the electronically controlled curtains and the television by the bath. These photos give a taste of the luxury. 

And just to prove the television works!!!!!!On our return to the hotel tonight we ordered room service so that I could eat and watch the football,just to emphasis how good the hotel is, our supper arrived on a up-market hostess trolley with the table fully laid.Just like this………………..And for Patrick this is what we had  

Tomorrow we are off to Sydney,where the natives probably won’t be so courteous.
