It’s been two and a half years since the last entry in my blog and an awful lot has happened in that time. No holidays have been taken so I have had nothing to write about. Well all that is about to change with a cruise booked for June travelling up to the far north of Norway.
Since the last blog post technology has moved ahead and I’m going to attempt to write the blog just using my iPad on this holiday. The purpose of this post is to try out the equipment and apps to see if I can complete this task.
Margam Park is a large country park of approximately 850 acres with Margam Castle , a Grade 1 listed building at its heart. It is situated roughly a mile from our house and generally we would walk to the back entrance, but if we want to visit the gardens we drive to the main gates. We arrived at the car park at just after 10 and were surprised to see it was fairly busy considering the park had only just opened. As we walked into the park we could see the reason, a film crew was in town.
Film crews often use the park as a location with quite famous productions such as Dr Who and Da Vinci’s Demons being filmed here, but generally the crew are reticent about telling visitors anything about the production. On this occasion they were more forthcoming telling us that this was the second series of a BBC drama called The Pact.
One of the more interesting sights was the bar that they had set up in the Cloisters of Margam Abbey. I believe the pumps were dummies and that it will not be permanent.
We walked around the gardens first, past the Orangery…….
……and then through the pergola walkway.
The borders are now beginning to slowly come to life with daffodils and primroses the first to show. The trees also are starting to bud and with the sun coming out it really felt like an early spring morning.
Passing the back of Ivy Cottage, where Helena and family spent an enjoyable holiday during lock down, Sylvia could not help posing by the outside wall.
We walked up the hill to the castle itself, standing magnificently in the sunshine.…..
…..and then past the castle that the Grandchildren like the best.
The train that gives visitors rides from the main gate to the castle was parked up receiving some remedial work, so I took the opportunity for a photograph….
…..as I have a lot in common with this locomotive. We were both made in Ross-on-Wye!!!
Hopefully I will be posting again in June.
