On a list of things to do on a Norwegian cruise I guess sun-bathing on deck would come fairly low down. However today as we slowly made our way over the North Sea, the sun came out and the wind dropped which meant the sun loungers on the deck soon began to fill.
It goes without saying that even if the sun doesn’t shine there is always plenty to do on a sea day aboard ship and this cruise is no exception. Whether you like an active pastime………
…….or prefer a more relaxing time there is plenty to choose from.
The atrium is a perfect spot for either as it stretches over three floors joined by spectacular staircases. On the lower level is a dance floor for those more active cruisers or you can just sip your coffee and watch the world go by.
Throughout the day there are various game shows and trivia quizzes taking place. Last night we took part in a “Music Through the Decades” themed quiz. We did well in the 50s and 60s, but slowly worsened through the 70s, 80s and 90s and came to a complete full stop when it reached the 21st century. Who’s ever heard of Avecci? We did a little better this afternoon getting a credible 18 out of 20 in a straight forward trivia quiz but getting beat by a team of six who got full marks. But as I always say it’s all about taking part and not about winning!!!!
Tonight was the first formal night of the cruise and we joined a table with two Scottish couples, one from Ayr and the other from Paisley. I spent three years in the 1970s at college just outside Ayr so it was pleasant to chat about the town and how much it had changed. I had Duck a l’Orange for my meal and it was cooked perfectly, a very enjoyable meal.
After dinner I went to the theatre to see the first production show of this holiday to feature the Princess singers and dancers called “Rock Opera”. It was a strange mixture of show tunes from “The Greatest Showman”, “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Dear Evan Hansen” mixed with some rock classics from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Queen, Cher and Wales’ own Bonnie Tyler. All the numbers were performed with the gusto that you come to expect from a cruise show with lots of flashing lights and show smoke. It was the first time I had seen this show and I enjoyed it even if it was slightly off the wall.
After the show Sylvia and I returned to the atrium for a late night drink.
The internet access is a little ropey at the moment so this post may take longer to post than expected. Tomorrow is our first port of call, Haugesund.
I’ve heard a Avecii! Come on! Who hasn’t!
Next time you can buy me a ticket just in case they ask another 2010 pop question. It will be well worth the money 😏
