An Indian on the Bay of Biscay.

After finally getting our luggage last night at around 10.10pm we settled down for a good nights sleep after a busy day. Our slumbers were rudely awakened at just after 3.00am by an announcement over the tannoy informing us of a medical evacuation that was taking place by helicopter. For the next 45 minutes all we could hear was the sound of the copter’s rotor blades outside our cabin as some poor passenger had had his holiday sadly cut short. Passengers on the decks above us had to evacuate their cabins during this exercise and spent over an hour away from their rooms in one of the bars before returning at 4.00am. I gather the casualty was finally transferred via lifeboat rather than the helicopter and hopefully he is now safely in hospital and recovering.

One of the great things about cruising is the variety of food that is available on board and on P&O one of the best restaurants is Sindhu, the Indian speciality. Tonight we choose to eat there.

Sylvia with her starter.

After being served mini poppadoms with various pickles it was time to choose our starters. Sylvia choose “Hariyali Jhinga”, (ginger and mint tiger prawns with pineapple chutney………

Sylvia’s starter.

…..while I went for Beef Pepper Fry, which is Kerala-style beef with flatbreads and pickled vegetables.

My starter.

For our main course Sylvia choose Kalyera Mappas (Lobster, seafood biryani with spiced coconut and mango sauce) while I went for the Sindhu Signature Plate (Salmon curry, Chicken korma & Lamb Rogan Josh). This was served with extra flatbreads, naan, aubergine and dhal which we shared.

The Mains.

After a very filling main meal it was time to ponder whether to have a sweet. A quick study of the menu and the decision was made……

A pudding or not?

……Cardamon bread and butter pudding with ginger custard.

Pudding.

A delicious tasty meal that was flavoursome without being over filling, we WILL sleep well tonight.

This afternoon while sitting quietly reading, the ship’s fog horn started sounding followed by lots of shouting and cheering. Suddenly in full view of our balcony window appeared P&O’s very own Iona sailing in the opposite direction. We will be on her later in the summer and it was nice to see her at full steam.

Iona.

Tomorrow our first port of call La Coruna , Spain.
