As we left the port of La Coruna captain announced that we were taking a southern route to Bermuda to avoid the worse of the Atlantic weather. The arrival of the sick bags at the bottom of each staircase, as any seasoned cruiser will know, signals the fact that we are not going to miss the bad weather entirely. They appeared this afternoon!!
It was therefore the perfect opportunity to visit the restaurant on the 15th deck right at the stern where the effect of the wave motion would be at its most severe! We had booked The Beach House prior to departure not knowing what the sea conditions were to be and we wouldn’t let a little swell put us off.
The Beach House occupy part of the buffet area which is sectioned off in the evenings to become a Tex-Mex restaurant reminiscent of the likes of TGI Fridays. We have dined here on previous cruises and really enjoy the food.
For starters I decided upon the Piri-peri Chicken thighs which were delicious with just the right amount of fiery sauce.
Sylvia went for the potato skins and was served with three large potatoes together with a selection of sauces. The only complaint being it was a little too big meaning I had to finish one of the skins to help her out. What a gentleman I am!!!
The aroma from Sylvia’s main of sizzling King Prawns as it was delivered to our table was enough to get the digestive juices flowing. A mixture of peppers, onions and of course the giant prawns all sizzling away on a hot plate.
I stuck with a Rib Combo, a beef short rib together with a rack of pork ribs in a really tasty barbecue sauce. This together with a side of onion rings, tomato and chunky chips only left a little room for the sweet to follow. My choice being a Key Lime Sundae…….
…..while Sylvia went with Carrot Cake with caramel ice cream.
A really pleasant meal and in all honesty we didn’t feel too much of the ship’s movements until we got up from the table. We have booked this restaurant twice more during the cruise so look forward to sampling some more dishes from the menu.
The captain came on the tannoy this evening to announce that the weather was likely to get a little worse in the next couple of days before we get to Bermuda. I guess if you travel across the North Atlantic in March you can expect nothing different.
