The last time we sailed across the Atlantic (March 2023) we encountered storm after storm which meant we missed two ports of call and spent a total of ten days at sea. We therefore had no aspirations of good weather as we crossed further north and later in the year, how wrong we were. The weather has been very good with many people enjoying the sun on the open decks.…
…..and the calm seas gave us plenty of opportunities to enjoy the facilities of the ship such as the putting green on the top deck.
As well as generally relaxing in the sun.
The food on board whether in the main dining rooms or the buffet is plentiful, with excellent choices of dishes whatever your tastes. In addition to the regular dining rooms there are several specialist restaurants on board and tonight we choose to dine at one of them; “The Catch by Rudi”. As its name implies this is a fish and seafood restaurant and it was excellent.
For starters I had a Seafood Tower, tuna, salmon and crab served in an avocado salad presented in glass jars in a tower.
It was delicious and refreshing, a really good start to the meal. Sylvia chose Ole Prawns, Spanish style peeled prawns served in a garlic oil.
The prawns were large and succulent and would probably made a main course on their own. Talking of large prawns, for my main I had Grilled King Prawns and I have never seen prawns this big before, in fact the lady on the next table thought I had ordered lobster.
They were so big and meaty that the sides of french fries and ratatouille almost went untouched. Delicious!!!
Sylvia went for the Dover Sole which was excellently filleted at the table by our waiter. Again it was a huge portion that was beautifully cooked.
After two large main courses we were thankful for the delay in the desserts being served. I had chosen what I thought may be a light berry soufflé but once again the portion size was large.
Sylvia went down the much safer route of Crepe Suzette and ice cream.
A lovely meal, well worth the extra supplement with my only criticism is that the portion sizes were probably too large (although I did manage to clear my plate!!)
Even the chocolates served with our tea and coffee at the end carried on the seafood theme shaped as they were as fish and shells.
Two more days at sea now before our first Canadian port of call and I think the weather may be getting a little more seasonal tonight and tomorrow so we might encounter some rougher seas. I’ll post again from Canada.
