Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

Prince Edward Island was the home of author L. Maud Montgomery of “Anne of Green Gables” fame and on our last visit in 2019 we visited the real-life Green Gables. This time we decided to stay local and explore the pretty city of Charlottetown itself.

Welcome to Charlottetown.

Charlottetown is the largest city and the capital of the Canadian Province of Prince Edward Island and the sun shone on us as we sailed into the pretty harbour.

The harbour.

As we made our way onshore we were greeted by an Anne lookalike to welcome us to the town.

Anne with an “E”.

The first stop on our walking tour was St. Dunstan’s Basilica located a couple of blocks from the harbour.

Inside the church was decorated ready for a wedding that was to take place later in the afternoon.

As we walked down the Main Street we were greeted by some well dressed locals who wished us a pleasant day in the town with a very English accent.

Outside the fire station was a lovely example of an old fire engine.

Throughout the town were examples of scarecrows to celebrate the beginning of the Autumn season. Some examples ….

And here.

More scarecrows.

By this time we had worked up an appetite and so we decided to stop for a local delicacy of Lobster Roll.

Lobster Roll at the Sea Rocket.

This was the first lobster roll of the trip but probably not the last so I will be comparing them as we go. This was a great example to begin with, very meaty and succulent. If they are all this good I’m going to enjoy the tasting experience.

All in all Charlottetown is a very pretty place with different coloured buildings bordering the generally quiet streets.

A charming town which we throughly enjoyed visiting. Tonight we make our way to Sydney on Cape Breton Island our destination for tomorrow.
